Sally Norton is a specialist laparoscopic (key-hole) surgeon for weight-loss, gallstones and hiatus hernia or reflux disease. She is also a specialist in endoscopy and related procedures.
Having worked as a consultant surgeon at Southmead, Frenchay and Bristol Royal Infirmary hospitals since 2003, Sally has a long-established practice in weight loss surgery – leading a large multidisciplinary team that has provided surgery to over 1000 patients, and has served on the Council of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society.
More than just performing surgery, Sally’s success comes from her focus on providing support to patients before and after surgery. As such she is leading the field in the development of innovative and nationally recognised patient support material such as iPhone applications and websites, which provide advice and information.
For Sally, being a consultant surgeon is not just about being able to operate; it is about taking time to understand each patient’s own requirements and even knowing when surgery is not necessarily in the patient’s best interests. A vital part of Sally’s service is discussing options before deciding, together with the patient, how best to manage symptoms or weight issues, with or without surgery.
